Thanksgiving just went past us, but the other big holidays; Christmas and New year are round the corner. Not to mention the numerous holiday party events at your workplace, friends’ or (to be) in-law’s to rake up enough stress when you open your closet, stare and think, ‘What do I wear?!’ Fret no more because I’ve got your Holiday dressing covered. Here are a few of my tried and tested tips to make you look stunning each and every time you walk into a gathering.
LBD: Make it as basic as jersey or as fancy as silk, the eternal Little Black dress will always keep you looking stylish. With the mood so festive, pick up an LBD with sparkling sequins or soft lace in a flare A-line to suit every body type.
Statement Jewellery: Go from ‘office-ready to ‘party-ready’ in seconds. For an instant upgrade, throw on a statement necklace in bright beads, silver golds or rows of pearls. If you want to highlight other areas, then opt for cuffs, bracelets, cocktail rings or chandelier earrings. Always remember not to overpower your outfit with more than one statement piece at a time.
Tights: An often under-estimated item, a pair of bold tights can be a great accessory to change up the same outfit for a different event. Have a pair of black lace tights handy to create an interesting twist to your outfit. Keep the rest of the outfit muted and let the tights do all the talking.
Evening bags: From Hollywood stars to the girl-next-door, the evening bag completes a festive look. A bold clutch, with gold/silver sequins, encrusted crystals or colorful beads can make you look like a million bucks. This must-have is great for those parties than run all night, just remember to buy one with a long chain strap so you can dance with your clutch on.
Shoes: Wear a simple dress and a pair of pumps to die for and you have a holiday feast for the eyes fit for any gathering. Make it a statement-making item for the holidays. Look for the uniqueness in your shoes, say a silver studded heel or a satin bow on the toes?
Makeup: You can create your Holiday look to either complement your outfit or be the main attraction. Smokey eyes done with shades of copper, gold and black toned down with a light pink or nude lip is a festive classic. If you aren’t a fan of smokey eyes, then go for a simple neutral eye-shadow with winged eyes to achieve cat eyes. Finish the look with a bright lip, in shades of red, plum or burgundy
The festive mood is set and it is time to look into your closet for the ‘dressiest’ outfits to strut this season. The general rule of thumb is to keep the cleavage revealing outfits at bay for office events, family gatherings and dinner at in-laws. Just throw on a blazer or a bolero to conceal and take it off for the fun after parties. Don’t forget to wear shoes that you can walk and dance in, your feet with thank you for it.
